10 Years in Type
Grafik managed to catch Jason Smith’s talk at the recent TYPO London, where he gave a sneak preview of Fontsmith’s new publication, a collection of booklets celebrating 10 years of typeface design. Now the collection itself has arrived on our doorstep, and it serves as a beautiful though selective catalogue of the foundry’s history.
The publication is a series of booklets housed within a slip-case, and each booklet tells the story of one of FontSmith’s typefaces, including FS Lola, FS Joey and FS Albert. In each booklet is an exclusive interview with the designers involved with the featured typeface, alongside working drawings, examples and specimens and developmental notes and sketches.
The box-set and booklets are designed by Leeds-based Thompson Brand Partners, who have created both an admirable and collectable graphic item, as well as a well-informed critical reference for those with an eye for type design.
