17/12 → 09/04/2012 / Weston Park Museum, Sheffield
The British Museum is holding a touring exhibition China: Journey to the East, spotlighting China’s long history of technological and cultural innovation. The objects on display include examples of some of the earliest Chinese writing, an abacus, a compass and even 1300 year-old jam tarts. Illustrator Jonny Wan and Sheffield-based design agency The Cafeteria have created a series of colourful and impactful pictures to accompany the exhibition. The elaborately styled mask of a dragon acts as a principal ident, and separate icons represent the various sub-themes. The familiar cat with raised left paw for “Festivals and Beliefs” has just the right combination of cuteness and claw. The Exhibition is currently at the Weston Park Museum in Sheffield and will run until April 9th. It is supported by BP, a China Now legacy project.
