From block to print: Wood engraving at Bankside
From the 27th January, the Society of Wood Engravers is holding its 74th annual exhibition at the Bankside Gallery in London. The society was founded in 1920 by a group of artists which included Lucien Pissarro and Eric Gill.
Each year they exhibit some of the finest examples of contemporary wood engraving by artists from the UK and around the world. For anyone with an interest in engraving or printmaking, it’s a chance to see some exceptionally intricate and hauntingly beautiful work. The catalogue cover is adorned with a view of the 2012 Olympic stadium, engraved with wonderful subtlety by Anne Desmet.
