Events / Symposium: Architectures of Spectacle at Whitechapel / étapes: international
06/07 → 06/07/2012 / Whitechapel Gallery, Zilkha Auditorium, London

What is at stake culturally, socially and physically in the staging of a modern Olympic Games? What does it mean for east London beyond the Games? A day-long symposium, Architecture of Spectacle, brings together architects, artists, sociologists and urban theorists to consider the transformation of an area into a centre of global attention. Speakers include Katherine Clarke of muf architecture/art in conversation with Anna Minton, author and journalist. The event is in association with the Centre for Urban and Community Studies, Goldsmiths College, University of London, public works and This is Not a Gateway.
Three independent films about self-initiated engagements with architecture as object, territory, common ground and neighbourhood will be screening throughout the day in the recently refurbished Zilkha Auditorium foyer. Tickets are £15.
