Events / Typo Berlin 2012: Sustain / étapes: international
17/05 → 19/05/2012 / Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin

TYPO Berlin, the successful and inspirational Design Conference series organised by Fontshop, will be foregrounding the theme of sustainability this year. The conference will be exploring how typography, graphic design and visual communication can promote social good. They have another spectacular list of speakers lined up for 2012, including Matthew Butterick, a lawyer and type designer. The judicial system and its notoriously text-heavy documentation led Matthew to come up with a website Typography for Lawyers in 2008. He has also designed the Equity font family specifically for legal texts. He will be talking about the relationship between typography and digital technology. Another notable speaker will be the illustrator, letterer and writer Jessica Hische who will be talking about sustainable design practice and why she thinks that designers should be taking a lead in terms of social design and sustainability. Her witty lettering designs for initials made in 2009 is one of her creative additions to the online environment.
