We love New York. We love the food, the people and the goddam attitood. And we especially love the fact that artist Will Ryman has been allowed to install a series of enormous roses along a section of Park Avenue, one of the town’s swankiest thoroughfares. The installation consists of thirty-eight sculptures, some towering as high as twenty-five feet, alongside twenty individual rose petal sculptures. The Roses can be viewed between 57th and 67th Streets until 31 May 2011. This amazing project rather neatly sums up the differences between the New York and London’s contrasting attitudes to public art. Manhattan is literally coming up roses, while London is saddled with a big blue cock.
